Overview
Water security, and sustainable use and allocation of water, are major long-term challenges for NSW. NSW Government will need to increase rainfall-independent supply, better manage scarce water resources, and work closely with local councils to achieve increased water storage and recycled use.
In regional areas, supporting local investment that ensures water quality for all communities is a priority. Community engagement on regional water policies should be undertaken well before NSW experiences the next drought.
Strategic directions
These are the strategic directions to best meet the challenges and opportunities of this theme. They inform specific recommendations.
